There is a lot of information out there, online or otherwise, with advice on how we can all live a good life and maximise our potential. While many of these do provide helpful tips on how we can navigate certain situations in life, few direct us to the truly knowing thyself. Unravelling the mystery of thyself is the greatest secret to living a good life. This is a journey that is as simple as it is profound, as easy as it is hard. We have to be awakened, we have to be aware, we have to be willing. But without drawing on the ancient wisdom of those who have walked the path before us, being able to realise that we do not know ourselves as well as we think we do is not always a given.
You are not perfect the way you are
One of the oft cited misnomers of the modern day life is that we are somehow perfect the way we are. I have news for you. We are not! And saying that we are not is not meant to demean or put down because no one is ever perfect and that is OK! It is in fact extremely empowering because we can be better every single day! We learn from our imperfections! As Sovereign Ipsisimus Dave Lanyon of the Modern Mystery says: “You are not perfect the way you are. It is in trying to be perfect that you are perfect”. Ipsisimus Dave has written a book on this with practical tips on how to live life, incidentally called “You are not perfect the way you are”.
We are all warriors within our own lives and whether we want to wage a battle in integrity with ourselves and be victorious depends on how must effort we put into knowing ourselves truly. For those who want to embrace this, Ipsisimus Dave has also written “Essential Principles for the Warrior of Light”.
Know Thyself and Divine Purpose
Whether we know it or not, every individual has a divine purpose. In the density of this physical life, this might not be very clear. This is where a system of how to live life that is as old as life itself can truly lend a hand and unmuddy the waters.
It is probably fair to say that everyone want to live a good life. While what would constitute a “good life” might look different to different people, it is safe to assume that most want a life that has purpose and an existence that provides fulfilment. However, knowing what one truly wants and what one truly wants to achieve is another matter altogether. Too often, we find ourselves distracted by the world around us, side tracked by what others are doing and unable to see clearly what is it that we are truly meant to do. Life then just passes us by and along with it, the opportunity to really make a difference.
How then do we know how to discern what is truly meant for us? How do we know what it is that we are meant to do and live life in integrity? How do we follow our own blueprint instead of becoming caught up unwittingly in someone else’s?
What is Hermetics?
Hermetics is a body of teachings emanating from the Hermetic Ray and brought through the writings of Hermes Trismegistus. It is a system of living that predates any religion. Hermetic teachings support us on how to live life on earth in alignment with who we truly are. To live hermetically is to live life alive.
The Modern Mystery School in the lineage of King Solomon is a hermetic lineageTo live hermetically is to follow a path that is beautiful, all-encompassing and rewarding. In it, contains everything that you need to get out of survival mode and to thrive.
The Kybalion, a book originally published in 1908 by "Three Initiates that conveys the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus, lists seven immutable principles which permeates every aspect of life. From our relationships to one another to our relationships with ourselves and to the universe around us and within us, these principles, if followed, support us to realise our fullest potential on earth.
In a nutshell, they are:
1. The principle of mentalism
"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental."
2. The principle of correspondence
"As above so below [...] This principle embodies the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life. In other words, your outer world reflects your inner world.
3. The principle of vibration
"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."
4. The principle of polarity
"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."
5. The principle of rhythm
"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."
6. The principle of cause and effect
"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law."
7. The principle of gender
"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes."
While these principles may seem abstract, they are absolute truths in life. To the novice, these principles may not make much sense. They certainly did not to me when I first encountered them. While I could intellectually understand them, I was unable to put them in practice in a way that was anchored into my everyday life. In short, I was unable to bring them out of the book and manifest it into the physical in a way that served me.
So, to those who say that reading a book alone can unveil the mysteries of life, I say bull! A book can give you knowledge, but knowledge without understanding will never translate to wisdom. And, how do we gain understanding? Through experience and integration! This can really only be done when something in our energy structures profoundly shift.
It was not until I attended my first Hermetics Class taught by Sovereign Ipsisimus Dave, Hermetic Communication of the Divine Masculine and Feminine, that it began to click. It is through attending this class that I got the missing link that I was unable to get from the books alone – the keys. I was intrigued!
Sovereign Ipsisimus Dave Lanyon teaches various classes that help us to demystify the Hermetics and bring it into our everyday lives in a way that bears visible fruit. The classes, Hermetic Joy, How to Live a Hermetic Life, Hermetic Communication of the Divine Masculine and Feminine and Relationships in the Hermetic Life, are all designed to help us navigate the various stages of life based on immutable absolute truths of life. There truths are not based on our likes or dislikes or our feelings and emotions – they just are.
This is not for the airy fairy feel good in the short term fix. This is life changing.
Hermetic Joy Class
What can be better than a life that is lived in a state of joy as opposed to the endless pursuit of happiness? Happiness is but a feeling that comes and goes along with most transient things in this physical life. It depends on things of which, many are outside our control. Joy, however, is a state of being that remains untouched by all that is outside of you.
With joy, there is passion and with passion, there is creation. Humans need this in order to keep on progressing. How empowering it is to know that I could shift out of stasis and that I was not just a victim to an endless stream of feelings and emotions!
How to Live a Hermetic Life
This class is a perfect way to integrate all that book knowledge in a practical way. It brings all of the principles to life in a practical way. I won’t’ ruin the surprise but the spoiler alert is – There are many keys!
Hermetic Communication of the Divine Masculine and Feminine
There is so much jargon out in the world that pits the sexes against one another when in reality, both are needed for there to be flow in this world. The class unveils the delicate dance between the two different but complementary energies that bring forth beauty and creation in this world for all things that are of the light.
This isn’t a class about romantic relationships although it can certainly help those! It is so useful to learn how to weave the equally important but different energies in the world in a balanced way and in alignment with all that is good and of the light.
Relationships in the Hermetic Life
For me, the jewel of the crown was “Relationships in the Hermetic Life”. All things in life are based on relationships and we cannot truly have the experience we are meant to have in this life without relationships. We may avoid or minimise relationships out of fear of pain or suffering, but yet, the truth of the matter is that we cannot accomplish and achieve many of the greatest things on earth without relationships. So, we can either hide away, or we can take charge of ourselves and learn how to navigate and build relationships that are in alignment with the light.
Which will you choose? If you want to live a good life, and I believe you do (as I do), then learning and integrating the Hermetic principles into your everyday life will lift you out of the mundaneness of life and help you to truly have a meaningful experience.
