Busting the myth of having no choice

What does it mean to have no choice?

The phrase “no choice” has become part of commonly used day-to-day parlance. The Collins dictionary defines the phrase as follows: If you have no choice but to do something, you cannot avoid doing it while the Macmillan dictionary defines having no choice as being in a situation where you must do something.

In other words, when one has no choice, one is in a position where there is only one option and nothing else. In our modern life, how often is it really true that we have no choice?

Given how loosely and frequently this phrase is now used, have we lost sight of what it actually means to have no choice? Have we disempowered ourselves by reinforcing the misguided belief or idea that we have no choice but to accept an undesirable outcome or unsatisfactory state of being, when in reality we do have a choice and other options?

Of course, the choices available may not always be the easiest or the most comfortable, which in turn leads us to pick an option that may seem like the least hassle. To protect and justify our choice, we then label it “no choice”.

But, if we were to be honest with ourselves, is it really a case of no choice? Or is it a choice of picking the path of least resistance?

THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE VERSUS THE PATH THAT IS IN OUR HIGHEST GOOD

We are extremely powerful beings - able to create, manifest and control whatever we truly want. With that in mind, we always have a choice in relation to how we want to react to a particular situation, and how we choose to show up, for ourselves and others.

Very often, we do get to decide whether we want to pick the difficult option of facing up to our worst fears, or to gloss over things and take the easy way out, often to avoid stress or difficult emotions. Deep down, we know what the choice for our highest good should be, but yet we try to justify picking the easier option by saying we have no choice. We try to convince ourselves that the easier way is really the only way because the other option is too scary. And sometimes, we pick the easier option just because we are too lazy to pick the harder one, even though it is clear that the harder option is the better option long term, and will benefit us in the future!

By loosely and frequently using the term “no choice”, are we limiting our power? Are we choosing to remain stuck? Are we not giving ourselves the respect that each of us as human beings deserve? Are we choosing to remain small? Are we lying to ourselves?

Sometimes, the path of least resistance can seem tantalising - especially in a world where everything; including the concept of pursuing our dreams, can seem difficult. It does not help that we are also led to believe that if something was too difficult to achieve it would be because it was not meant to be, or that if something was smooth sailing, that it is what the universe wants us to have, regardless of our circumstances, individual history, the extent and amount we are able to put ourselves into something, and various other factors that vary from person to person.

At times, the path of least resistance could be the best option for our highest goods, while at other times this may not be the case. How do we really know? How do we discern without further information?

HOW TO DISCERN BETWEEN CHOICES?

The answer to this question is at once simple and difficult - know thyself.

If we truly knew ourselves, we would know what would be in our highest good:

  • We would understand our own power and ability to become bigger than any obstacle and achieve our true desires, and gain a confidence in ourselves to achieve the best for us, in line with our highest good.

  • We would not be fearful of working hard to face up to ourselves or others (be it friends, family or strangers who doubt us).

  • We would be empowered to love ourselves enough to always strive for perfection - not in a judgemental and critical manner, but in a honest manner - not to beat ourselves up over mistakes, but to rise up from them to learn and improve.

If we truly knew ourselves and what our values and purposes were, we would never say that we have no choice. Instead, we would be empowered to pick the right choice for us - which can sometimes be the easier choice, and other times the much harder one. It depends!

But to know the difference, we have to know ourselves!

HOW DO YOU KNOW THYSELF?

Are we living the lives we are meant to live? Or, are we taking actions that we feel we are expected to take? Do we even know?

In asking ourselves these questions, it is obvious it is important not to blame those around us for our own choices; rather, as we awaken to who we truly are, it is about taking ownership of our own lives. It is about dropping the lies we tell ourselves, and making choices that can help us to heal, develop and expand.

If we remain in blame mode, we are choosing to remain stuck. Acknowledge the situation, take action to release it, and then let it go.

Again, we realize this might sound easier said than done. This is why there is something called “the path of initiation”: In the ancient mystery schools, there is a path of progression, to help anyone who is willing to be dedicated to their own growth, to be devoted to seeking higher knowledge, and to be committed to working hard.

This is a path of progression that has been walked by many before us - including many of the great masters! It works and it begins with something called “Life Activation".

WHAT IS LIFE ACTIVATION?

What is Life Activation? That path is designed to bring us back to our true selves, but with the distractions of the world, it isn't always easy to connect with our higher selves or our true essences. We are constantly being hit by sensory overload with information flying at us left, right and centre while a million people with a million opinions are all assaulting our senses.

While everyone experiences it differently, the sense of clarity that it brings is palpable.

Old stuck patterns of behaviour or past negative thought spirals get released. Obstacles that once clouded your judgment get lifted – akin to finally wearing the right pair of glasses; where your surroundings are suddenly razor sharp after not being able to see clearly. We can see ourselves, what we need to do and what we need to heal with much better perspective.

But of course, it doesn't stop here. The greater the passion and the clarity, the greater the actions we need to take. And no, it isn't going to be easy - but it is enriching, authentic, rewarding, and fulfilling, and the rewards will be plentiful!

It is the beginning of the journey to truly knowing who you are and what you want. The beginning of knowing that you always have the choice to choose better for yourself!

EMPOWER THYSELF CLASS AND INITIATION

Just like Rome was not built overnight, the journey to knowing yourself will not happen instantaneously - like anything else, you will have to put in the effort and the work.

To quote Ipssimus Dave:

“You do not just Know Thyself one day. It takes concentrated work and effort. The whole nature of the world and universe is to direct you away from that understanding, to distract you. Knowing and understanding who you are takes courage and commitment.”

In the path, following a Life Activation, would be the Empower Thyself Class and Initiation, which will hand down the tools for you to work with your own energy structure. The Initiation at the end of the class will also bring down even more light and anchor it into your energy structure, aligning you with your true purpose and highest good.

You will get to know yourself on an even deeper level!

And why not? Isn't the longest lasting and most meaningful relationship in life with yourself? Indeed, the foundation of any good relationship with any god or other being stems from first having an honest relationship with yourself.

WHAT IS INITIATION?

In the ancient mystery school traditions, to ‘initiate' means to begin a process – to start something. Initiation sets forces in motion for your metamorphosis, transformation, growth and spiritual journey.

Initiation serves to ground the spiritual energies we are wielding - such as light, power and protection. These forces become anchored into our energy field so that we can readily access these energies through our mental, emotional and physical capacities to support us in our daily life choices, tasks and actions.

The handing down of knowledge that prepares one for initiation creates a template for living an empowered life; opening up the potential to master ourselves and to create the life which our higher selves truly desire. The initiation then activates this knowledge with spiritual power to support us to be in alignment with our highest and best good, to live out our purpose here on earth.

Initiation advances and catalyses the process of knowing ourselves, exposing us to our own highest purpose and the potentialities available to you in our present lives.

MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, THERE IS ALWAYS A CHOICE

As we progress on the path, we truly begin to embody our power and realise that more often than not, there is always a choice. We just have to choose the one that is right for us. Not what is right for our neighbour or colleague, not what is right for our best friend or relative, but what is right for us.

No choice is disempowering. THERE IS ALWAYS A CHOICE. Choose with your eyes wide open in full empowerment.
