Do you ever wonder what your soul’s purpose is? If you are one that is retrospective, chances are, you would. However, for us not to be misled by our feelings, we need to develop discernment.

This is not to say that feelings have no value. Of course, they do. Very often, feelings give us an indication of our well-being. For example, feelings of anger could mean that a boundary has been breached while sadness could indicate that you are yearning for something you cannot have or conversely, that you have lost something.

You may have used or heard terms such as "its my nerves" or "he is getting on my nerves". But what do we mean by it..?

Our nerves transmit information. The part of our nervous system called the autonomic nervous system ensures the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. It controls involuntary body functions such as breathing, blood pressure, heartbeat and the dilation or constriction of blood vessels.

I always thought that embarking on the spiritual path would make me happier, that somehow I would suddenly become a person that was always able to avoid or solve problems. I don’t know what gave me that idea but nevertheless it was subconsciously there. It therefore came as a rude shock that even as I meditated, journalled and did rituals, I was still fundamentally the same person who had triggers and anxieties.

There is more to this world than meets the eye…

Did know that part of our brain’s job is to filter out the vast majority of information we are exposed to on a daily basis, so we can function properly? That’s right! In reality, we perceive very little of what is actually going on around us. In other words, there is an intangible reality that operates at all times, without us even being aware of its existence. Yet, that intangible reality has very tangible effects on our lives.

Take your thoughts for example, can you see them? No.

Do they exist? Yes.

Do they affect your reality? Very much so.

I used to spend a lot of time worrying about what others thought of me. Or acting, saying and wearing things that I thought would make people like me. Now most of the time I have fun, I can still hear people’s reactions to me but I don’t mind if someone doesn’t like me, or something I do. It’s ok and doesn’t scare me anymore

And I find it interesting how universal this fear is. A tremendous amount of energy as a society is spent on fitting in and avoiding judgement from others.

So often we are not aware of how we are giving our power away to unconscious influences of the past or the belief that our difficulties are caused by our environment. Empowerment is when we become the driving force of our life, when we reconnect with our innate power to move and shift out of difficult situations and through emotional states. Empowerment is about reconnecting with our divine nature and our ability to create.
